Jason: Dominating figure
Sergio and Dustin: Speed up play

Slow play has always been a problem ever since, so I doubt that's the secret sauce. I'm going with Jason Day here where I believe you want a dominating figure, one who can transcend the sport again. One of the main reasons a lot of kids picked up the sport before was because of Tiger's dominance.

Speed up play would help. But as you've said it's been around since day 1 basically. Now the game has definitely gotten slowER and getting back to more consistent 4-4.5 hour rounds would help. But it's not the end all be all.

Golf DEFINITELY needs a transcendent figure again. You had Arnie and Jack and Tiger, but who's next? Until we find the next one, golf will stagnate again as there isn't the draw to pick up a very hard sport that has a pretty high barrier to entry (cost).
